This notice explains what personal data ápeiron Limited collects through this website, why, what we do with it, who else handles it, and your rights. It is written to meet the requirements of the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017.
Who we are
ápeiron Limited is a company registered in Guernsey (registration number CMP63175). Our registered office is 4 Paris Street, St Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 2BN. We are the controller of the personal data described in this notice.
For anything about your personal data, contact Tommy Murphy, Director, at tommy.murphy@apeiron.gg or by post at the address above.
What we collect, and why
When you contact us
If you use our contact form or email us, we collect your name, email address, company (if you give it) and whatever you write. We use it to reply to you and, if you ask, to discuss working together. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who get in touch, and, where an enquiry leads to an engagement, taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
When you comment on an article
If you leave a comment, we collect your name, email address, any website you give, your comment, and your IP address. Your name, website and comment are shown publicly; your email address is not. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a discussion on our articles and keeping it free of spam.
When you subscribe
If you subscribe to our articles, we collect your email address and send you new articles by email. Our lawful basis is your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, and that withdraws your consent.
When you visit the site
Like most websites, ours records basic information about visits: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. We use this, in aggregate, to understand which pages are read and to keep the site secure. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running and protecting the site.
We do not ask for special category data (such as health or political opinions) through this website. Please do not include it in a message unless it is necessary. Nothing on this site makes automated decisions about you or profiles you.
Who else handles your data
We do not sell your personal data or share it for marketing. These organisations handle it on our behalf:
- Automattic Inc. (WordPress.com and Jetpack) hosts this website and provides its contact form, comments, subscriptions, likes and visitor statistics. Its Akismet service checks comments and form messages for spam, and its Gravatar service may show a profile picture linked to a commenter’s email address.
- Google supplies the fonts used on this site. Your browser fetches them directly from Google, which means Google receives your IP address.
- Our email provider receives messages sent through the contact form, which are delivered to our business mailbox.
We may also disclose personal data where the law requires it.
Transfers outside the Bailiwick
Automattic and Google are based in the United States, which is not an authorised jurisdiction under the Law. Automattic states that it relies on standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or the UK Government for transfers of this kind. Standard data protection clauses are recognised by the Office of the Data Protection Authority as a safeguard for transfers from the Bailiwick.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not lead to work: two years from our last contact, then deleted.
- Enquiries that lead to work: kept with the engagement records, under the terms agreed for that work.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published. Ask us and we will remove yours.
- Subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
- Visitor statistics and spam-checking data: held by Automattic in line with its own retention practices.
Keeping it secure
Access to the website’s administration and to our business mailbox is limited to our director. Our providers apply their own security measures to the data they handle for us.
Cookies
The site uses cookies and similar technologies from WordPress.com and Jetpack to count visits, remember your details when you comment, and support likes and subscriptions. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, although you may need to re-enter details when commenting.
Your rights
Under the Law you have the right to:
- be told how your personal data is used (this notice);
- see a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased in certain circumstances;
- restrict how we use it, or object to our using it, in certain circumstances;
- receive data you gave us in a portable format, in certain circumstances;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To use any of these rights, email tommy.murphy@apeiron.gg. We will respond within one month, and there is normally no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Authority for the Bailiwick of Guernsey at odpa.gg.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when what we do changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
